Inspirations

Every journey has had an element or two that has inspired us to travel

Everyone has places that inspire them.  Places to which they would like to return because of any number of reasons including:
  • remote location
  • incredible beauty
  • the people
  • the activities done there (or could be done there)
  • the travel to and from
  • the food
  • the architecture
  • the cultural experiences
In this page we'd like to discuss some of the places that fit into the categories above.  This will maybe give some insight into some of the places you have seen in our blog posts over the years.  This may also lead us to do blogging that includes other topics than just where we are when we make a post.

What will follow will not necessarily follow the order of the list above.  That's just to get us started.

Remote Location

We have been inspired by several remote locations.  Three of these happen to be in the country of Georgia.  The first of these remote locations we visited was Shatili, Khevsureti region in the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus mountains in the Arghuni gorge near the border with Chechnya.  Now a World Heritage Site.  The homes here are stone towers built between the 7th and 13th centuries and served both as homes and as a fortress.  Near Shatili is Mutso, another tower village but in much poorer condition.

What made these two places so very special to us was that they were not easy to get to in the first place.  It was a long drive over a very very poor road which had Marty hanging on with white knuckles!  The views along the road were nothing sort of breathtaking and mind numbing.  Being in such a remote area, the first we had visited in Georgia, made this very, very special.  Staying in a home, eating with residents, drinking some locally made cha-cha made for warmth inside us as well as our evening's meal.
