Agmashenabeli Avenue

We walked quite a distance on Agmashenabeli Avenue, the main street on the left bank of the Mtkvari River yesterday and were amazed at the work that is going on.
Agmashenabeli Ave right now

When we were in Tbilisi last December, the city was starting to clean and paint the building fronts.  Now they've torn up the street and are entirely rebuilding the street and sidewalks.  So far, the work extends to Marjanishvili Street; it's unclear if they'll go further toward Vorontsov Square where we live.
Apollo Theater

Long one of our favorite buildings along the avenue is the Apollo Theater.  It was, however, falling into total disrepair and was looking so very sad.  We worried that on one of our next trips that it would just be gone.  We hope that the interior is being renovated as well, not just the facade.  It will be very interesting to see just what this structure will be when the renovation is complete.

We are uncertain if part of the avenue will be a pedestrian way or if it will return to traffic as usual.  We did notice that they were laying paving stones in some areas which might tend toward a pedestrian way, so we shall just have to wait and see.
