Tuesday and sunshine

Okay, not every day has lots of news to report, but sometimes we take photos and just want to pass those along to you.  Yesterday we went to the Old Town and got some shots we wanted to share.

First, we need to say that there are some areas now where buildings we saw last year are gone....gone....gone!  I don't know if some were ones we have photographed over the years, but it was still a shock to see new construction where once had stood old buildings.

This project is rising near the Dry Bridge and is where once stood an acquatics center and tennis courts. The center disappeared a few years ago, but now something is rising.  There seem to be two buildings going up; maybe next year we'll know.

Right behind the Patriach's residence was a street of old residences with interesting Italian-style courtyards.  These are disappearing now, and this something-or-other is going up.
Old stone construction revealed
Granted, this isn't new construction, but for the first time we saw these very large blocks used for construction.  Previously this will have been completely covered in stucco and we would never have realized that some buildings had these huge blocks.

In the Old Town
We have always enjoyed this building/home.  This wonderful blue balcony wrapping around the corner.  The question now, how much longer will this be here?

Sometimes you see something that just makes you smile.  Sometimes you have to giggle.  Sometimes you just need to stop and look at a creation and enjoy.  This "lady" above is one of those creations that makes us smile, giggle, and stop to enjoy!  She adds color to street and is truly an invitation.  The wire/metal work on the the railings is also just wonderful!

Walkway over the River Mtkvari
Last year we posted photos of this new pedestrain way from the old town across the river.  This year we've added the balcony of a building neary by as contrast to the bridge.

These are the gates in front of the older church near the Hanger Bar, we have always loved the archway and how it frames the building behind.

One of David's friends
Because of the construction shown below, we had to walk across the Baratashvili Bridge and of coures, there was a photo op!

When we first arrived in Georgia, Dato told us that a building we were familiar with had collapsed.  He said that the people inside had heard a noise and then realized their danger.  The building just fell in upon itself and as far as we know, no one was injured.
