We're on the road for real now. After
breakfast on Monday morning at the Silver Dollar Diner in Reston and
a quick stop in Trader Joe's for a few things we headed south. Hit
some traffic (naturally) but after we got onto I95 things thinned out.
Lily surprised us both when she decided
that she really needed to be on David's lap as he drove. She's never
done that before...guess there is always a first time.
We had no major traffic issues getting
to Carolina Beach State Park near Wilmington, NC. And once in the
park found that there appeared to be only the campground host and
ourselves in the entire state park! Most of Monday was either travel
or getting ourselves set up in the camp ground.
Tuesday we awoke to some cloud cover
but at least the temperatures have been in the 50's. We are camping
very near the Cape Fear river which does attract different wildlife
to the campground. Paul spotted two deer and we've seen some
interesting birds. Dee saw a Banded Kingfisher and we all saw a
brown-headed nuthatch working away at a dead tree! We heard Eastern
Towhees scratching up the leaves looking for food on a nice hike
through the park.
Paul and Dee head out on one of the many trails in Carolina Beach State Park. |

Tomorrow (Wednesday) we head for the
Savannah area of Georgia and maybe some warmer weather too!
