Tuesday and Guadalupe NP

Monday night

We've fixed our last BBNP meal which was eaten at sunset with the moon high over Casa Grande.  Both camping vehicles are nearly ready to go, and basically tomorrow am we will figuratively and literally pull up stakes and head out.

Most folks are surprised to learn that we are camping with two cats in each of our campers.  To us this is quite normal, our cats adjust to life on the road and the campground routine and new noises.  We are so lucky that for the most part the occasional escape by one of them has always ended well.

And on the last night in the park finally got a photo of the lovely Acorn Woodpecker.  Will eventually post a photo.

And last but not least, each camp site comes equipped with a bear box, a large metal box with doors in which one stores food to keep the bears from getting it.

Tuesday

On the road at 07:00, sun has just turned the sky the most beautiful of rosy orange color.

Breakfast in Study Butte, which is pronounced stu-de butte.  We had our choice of buffet or buffet for $8.95 all you could eat.

Some general or random thoughts we had not recorded before.  Not too many trees here in SW Texas, cactus, scrubby stuff, few green items of vegetation save for the cacti. There is a state of distress due to severe water shortage visible in nearly all living things.  You have to wonder how plants, animals, and humans survive day after day when water is such a critical commodity.  We don't see any industry here, if there are cattle, we have seen little evidence of them.  Opps, in Valentine we saw cattle, don't know what they are eating because the grass is all brown.

Pecan trees!  At least that is our guess.  Cultivated, pruned, irrigated on rt 90 near I10.

Texans are a proud people and we have not noticed an attitude that would be categorized as negative.

We have arrived!  Very dramatic view of Guadalupe Peak as we approach.  We will hike tomorrow.
