Capturing Effort

The fun part of taking sports shots is that sometimes you are able to capture something that is special to you or to the sport/event.  I like taking photos of the hammer throwers for a wide variety of reasons the one of which is the elegance of the effort.  These athletes are dancers balancing their body weight against the pull of the hammer as their momentum ever increases.  This shot taken at the Maine Games shows the effort just prior to the release.  The shot was taken through two layers of netting, in light rain, using a Nikon D700, 70.0-200.0mm lens, 1/800s, f/5.0, ISO 1000.
