Order when it could have been disorder

In spite of today's off and on rain, and then just rain, we did make it over to Pashupathinath along with thousands and thousands of others.  We were going to walk but considered the weather and grabbed a taxi.  The streets in Kathmandu are like Maine spring roads on drugs.  The traffic is never light and easy and with today's Teej Festival it was crazy.  It seems that all the women in Kathmandu Valley were headed to the temples and most of them to Pashupathinath, the very important Hindu temple complex.  As we got closer there were just too many people in the streets and the police were not allowing cars to go past certain points, so we got out of the taxi and hoofed it along with thousands of other walkers.  As we walked nearer to the temple it became more and more congested and Soon we saw that there was a long line, I mean a long line of women who were queuing up in the most orderly fashion.  They were nearly all wearing red saris with elegant gold trim and decoration in their hair as well.

Marty took many photos but with the D700 and without a computer impossible to share with you.  Some photos were captured with the iPod but we are not sure just how to get them into the blog from where they are filed.  Seems tht we have a bit of learning to do.

It was just an amazing event to witness, and we are very glad to have been here when it was going on.

A bit abut Teej can be found by following the link below.

As for us, we leave tomorrow for the eastern part of the country and very may well be out of touch until we rerun to Kathmandu next week.

Marty's bag arrived this evening so she now has clothes!  Including a rain jacket which since it seems that the monsoon season is still here for a bit longer will come in handy.

As we were leaving another line of women waiting in the rain, bur this line doubled back on itself!
