Tuesday in the rain - Teej Festival today

Waiting in the outdoor cafe garden for breakfast. Short walk in the rain until it went from sprinkled to rain.  We are in the Thamel district of the city.  It is old, somewhat rundown, but colorful and exciting.  The city wakes up gradually, you hear first the birds, then dogs barking followed by the metal shutters being raised.  Always first thing there are women making offerings which are sometimes just in front of their little shops.  This morning we saw one that was a small candle, a slice of banana and some flower petals!  When offerings are made at a temple or stupa people will ring a bell.  There is always this sound in the background of other daily street noises.

Below is a photo looking down the street toward Durbar Square (not visible in the photo because we are too far away.  My apologies for the photo quality but we are using only an iPod Touch for photos that are being posted.  Later this morning we'll head to the airport and hopefully pick up Marty's bag which missed the connection in London, however, David's made it!  And we'll meet with Bal (local director of ANSWER) and make plans for heading to the eastern part of the country to visit schools, meet students, and also to visit Kendra Rinas (Maranacook grad) who is now working in Nepal.
