Tuesday/Wednesday

Tuesday and separation

Tuesday, right after lunch, we bid farewell to Dee and Paul who were going to use the Interstate to get to VA while we opted for lessor roads.  We are certain that they made far more progress toward a grandchild than did we.  We took Rt 33 in Columbus, Ohio and headed south toward West VA where we continued on 33.  This road wound through hollow after hollow after hollow with washed out bridges, tight curves, up and down, no shoulder, some form of oil pipeline, and on a blind down hill on a decreasing radius left-hander, David managed to slide a bin of knitting and electronics off a counter sending it wildly crashing to the floor.  Fortunately there was no damage.

We did see more unincorporated hamlets than are on any map of the area such as Crooked Creek, Joe's Run, Stumptown, Alum Bridge, Letter Gap,and Lether Bark to mention a few.  The poverty is right there on the edge, you cannot miss it with falling down barns, sheds, and small homes.  A sign at one town proudly announcing that it was the home of the 1945 state baseball championship team.  Most of these towns don't have enough flat ground for either a baseball field or a track!

We made it as far as the Walmart parking lot in Weston, WV where we spend the night.

Wednesday 06:30 and we are headed for wifi then off to Arlington!
